There were pre-printed (and a few hand written) signs and people, but not much energy. A couple of times the crowd started yelling "no cuts," but not full participation. Really, a call for "no cuts," is a call for status quo.
Someone handed me a little sheet that said "People Before Profits" and then listed opposition to "across the board cuts." My frustration with suggesting that there should be "no cuts" is focused on why I--or anyone else under 40--should pay into a broken system. At this point, we're not talking about providing a "safety net," we're talking about a national debt crisis.
By 2020, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid will CONSUME the entire federal budget. Period.
The cuts will come. It's just a matter of on what terms. Period.
Money does not grow on trees--no matter how loud you protest.
